New Year Motivation: Weight loss Success Story of the week

Happy new year once again everyone. I know many of us may have set fitness goals for the new year but at the same time we should bear in mind that goals requires a lot of work in order to achieve them. Today Juliana is motivating us with her journey of how she lost 15kg in 3 months and I do hope you find this inspiring and also learn a thing or two. Let's meet Juliana......

PLEASE TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF
My name is Juliana Jacob, I am in my mid 20s, I am a tax consultant and also a fitness Enthusiast. I am an indigene of kogi state and I was born and  brought up in Kano state. I love cooking, eating, reading, watching movies and working out.

WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO EMBARK ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY
sometimes in August 2015, I climbed the scale like my other colleagues and I weighed 85kg and that was what prompted me to lose weight. And also for the fact that people referred to me as "Ma" at such a young age.

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE THE WEIGHT AND HOW HAVE YOU MANAGED TO KEEP IT OFF?
It took me 3 months between August 2015 to October. Managing the weight hasn't been easy, there are days I want to just sleep and not workout while other days I want to forget everything, eat so much but the compliments I get from people keeps me going especially from those who said it was impossible to loose weight because of my love for food.

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT THIS NEW LIFESTYLE?
The ability to wear certain clothes I wasn't able to wear before and also there is this glow that just wasn't there before.

DO YOU EVER MISS YOUR OLD LIFESTYLE?
Not at all.

DO YOU EVER HAVE CRAVINGS? IF YES, HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH THEM?
Truthfully I have cravings always especially biscuits and late night snacks between 11pm-12 midnight. The good thing is that I don't always have the biscuits at home so I don't always eat them but sometimes I take some just to stay same. Lol.

WHAT'S YOUR TAKE ON THE CURRENT TREND OF WEIGHT LOSS PRODUCTS ESPECIALLY SLIM TEAS?
For me I think people depend too much on these products because they want quick fit and get disappointed when the results are not forthcoming. I love slim teas especially green tea but I think it is not what make you lose weight but the workouts and efforts you put into what you eat.

HOW DO YOU KEEP YOURSELF MOTIVATED?
I look at myself in the mirror regularly and admire the me I see and whenever I fall, I dust myself up and continue because there are people who are in this journey because of me and I can't fail them.

DO YOU EVER HAVE CHEAT MEALS? AND IF YES, WHAT'S ON YOUR CHEAT MEAL MENU?

Yes I have cheat meals. Most times its bread and tea, noodles and burger.

WHEN IT COMES TO EATING RIGHT, WHAT ARE YOUR TOP THREE RECOMMENDATIONS OF HEALTHY FOODS AND WHY?
  1. OATS: they are rich in minerals, vitamins and antioxidants.
  2. BEANS: they are rich in protein, fibers, makes you full and save more calories.
  3. UNRIPE PLANTAIN: it contains dietary fiber that helps burn fat.

WHAT'S YOUR TAKE ON PEOPLE SAYING EATING HEALTHY OR LIVING A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE IS EXPENSIVE?
OK, at first I was of the opinion that it was an expensive lifestyle but I know better now. It is not actually expensive, most of the foods we eat are quite cheap in the market and can easily be grown at home especially the fruits and vegetables. Not disputing the fact that there are some expensive foods, but it is all about making do with what you have and can afford. If I tell you the things I have not been able to eat on this journey because I can't afford them, you will be surprised.

IT IS NO NEWS THAT MOST PEOPLE REFER TO CARBS AS THE ENEMY WHEN IT COMES TO LOSING WEIGHT, DO YOU SHARE THE SAME THOUGHT ON THAT?
Carbs are not bad and it all depends on how they are incorporated in your meals. They should always be accompanied with lots of vegetables. Carbs should be eaten in moderation and also Portion control is key.

IS THERE A PARTICULAR EXERCISE YOU DID AND FOOD YOU ATE TO LOOSE ALL THE WEIGHT?
The first few months I jogged a lot and other exercises were jumping jacks, crunches, squats, butt kicks but my favorite was jumping jacks. And for the foods I majorly ate were sweet potatoes, plantain, oats, beans, fruits and vegetables. I literally lived on these foods for 3 months but now I basically eat all classes of food and for the workouts.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE OUT THERE WHO IS ABOUT TO EMBARK ON THIS JOURNEY BUT REALLY DON'T KNOW HOW TO GO ABOUT IT?
First and foremost be ready, then make google your friend because all the information I needed for my journey I got from google. Furthermore get a Weight loss mentor whose progress you admire. Also know it's not a competition, enjoy every step, remain positive and happy.

I don't know about you but personally I am inspired by Juliana's journey and I have also learnt a lot. Thank you so Juliana for inspiring us and also serving as a source of inspiration.
