Weight Loss Success Story of the Week


We all want to lose weight, stay fit and be healthy but sometimes we don't know how to go about it simply because there is no manual to go by. Our Success Story for the week is Reyahh and today is she sharing her story and journey with Get With Gladys, lets me Reyahh......

TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF
My name is Reyahh and I am a student of the university of Lagos, a fitness enthusiast, skin consultant (organic) and also an online fitness coach.

WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO EMBARK ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY
I have always been fat, you know my weight fluctuated from secondary school till my 100l days and I just felt I was meant to be fat. I have always wanted to be slim or have a normal looking stature but I didn't know how to go about it and also there was no one to motivate me towards it until I reached my highest weight of 121kg even then I didn't know what to do as I just kept eating and eating until one faithful night m mother saw me asleep, shook her head and the next morning she said "you have to do something about your weight" and that was how my life turned around.


HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE THE WEIGHT AND HOW HAVE YOU MANAGED TO KEEP IT OFF?
Well, I started at 121kg and I currently weight 72kg, also on a journey  to lose more 7kg to help me reach my goal weight which is 65kg. This journey has been eventful, beautiful and it took me 16 months to lose the weight I have lost so far (49kg). 

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT THIS NEW LIFESTYLE?
People think exercising is difficult and to me the most amazing part of my journey is my exercise and workout routines. I feel calm and now have control over food and what goes into my mouth which makes me aware and cautious.



HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH CRAVINGS?
I hardly have cravings but when I do I always have mint gum or sweet, i drink lots of water as it makes me full and think less about the craving because I try to look at long term longs not short term. 

HOW DO YOU KEEP YOURSELF MOTIVATED?
I keep myself motivated by remembering why I started this journey and the fear of being fat again really scares me so all I can do is give my best and also use other people success story to keep myself strong.


WHEN IT COMES TO EATING RIGHT, WHAT ARE YOUR TOP THREE RECOMENDATIONS OF HEALTHY FOODS?
Eating right depends on individual goals. More proteins and less carbohydrate, more fruits and more fiber. 

WHAT'S YOUR TAKE ON PEOPLE SAYING EATING HEALTHY OR LIVING A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE IS EXPENSIVE?
Living healthy is not as expensive as people claim it to be. N100 worth of pineapple is enough to serve as my dinner and I meal prep so it means less cost because I meal prep for the days ahead even if you are eating the same thing. losing weight/fat isn't about what you WANT but what you NEED.


IS THERE A PARTICULAR EXERCISE YOU DID AND FOOD YOU ATE TO LOSE ALL THE WEIGHT YOU HAVE LOST SO FAR?
I started off with cardio exercises then I incorporated HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) but now I combine both exercises. I basically stayed away from soda. processed food & fried foods, white bread, white rice, swallow and drastically reduced by food quantity because I ate large meals.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE OUT THERE WHO IS ABOUT TO EMBARK ON THIS JOURNEY BUT DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO START?
First of all make up your mind to start and be determined because determination is  more powerful than witchcraft. If you need help, get help and take it one day at a time. It won't be all rosy but remember that it will be worth it, just keep pushing. 

Reyahh is a true definition of hard work, determination and consistency. You can achieve anything you set your mind to if you are persistent and also have perseverance in you. I do hope you are inspired and have learnt a thing or two from Reyahh's journey.
